A Scripted Series About Selena Quintanilla Is Coming To Netflix

 Selena Quintanilla-PĂ©rez's legacy lives on!

The story of the late Tejana singer is coming to Netflix. The streaming platform announced on Tuesday (December 11) that they are adapting the Grammy-winner's life story for a new bio-scripted series titled Selena: The Series that will be executive produced by the Quintanilla family.

"Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory," Selena's sister Suzette Quintanilla said in a statement. "With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives. We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come."

Netflix's announcement came alongside a short teaser for the highly-anticipated series that simply displayed the title of one of Selena's biggest songs, "Bidi Bidi Boom Bom," as the audio of screaming fans plays in the background. The streaming platform also released the official description for the series, which reads: "A coming of age story following Selena as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music."

According to Netflix's press release (per Entertainment Weekly), the Quintanilla family will executive produce the show alongside MoisĂ©s Zamora, who is also writing the script.

Selena: The Series is not the first time Selena's story has been told on screen. Jennifer Lopez played the slain singer in 1997 biopic Selena, which was released two years after the singer's death.

Selena was murdered in a motel by her ex-employee Yolanda Saldivar, who the "Como La Flor" singer was confronting about embezzling money from both the fan club and boutiques, in 1995.
