FBI Seizes 2020 Election Records In Georgia As Democrats Raise Red Flags

Democrats are sounding the alarm after the FBI raided Fulton County’s election office and seized records tied to the 2020 election — a move that critics warn could signal a dangerous escalation in President Donald Trump’s ongoing effort to relitigate his loss.

The FBI executed a search warrant on Wednesday (January 28) at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center in Georgia, seeking ballots, voter rolls, and data connected to the 2020 presidential election, according to county officials. The warrant cited potential violations of federal laws related to election integrity and record retention.

What has raised even deeper concern, however, is who showed up at the scene.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was present outside the election office during the search — a highly unusual development that has sparked questions about whether the Trump administration is attempting to reframe its election fraud claims as a national security or foreign interference issue.

Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said, per CBS News, there are only two possible explanations for Gabbard’s presence — and neither is normal. Either, Warner said, Gabbard believes there is a legitimate foreign intelligence nexus tied to the 2020 election, which would legally require her to brief Congress — something she has not done — or she is improperly injecting the intelligence community into a domestic political effort tied to Trump’s refusal to accept his defeat.

Gabbard was seen alongside FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey at the scene. A senior administration official later told CBS News that the Director of National Intelligence has a role in election security, including protecting voting systems from interference. But lawmakers argue that justification does not explain why the nation’s top intelligence official would appear at a county election office tied to an election that has already been audited, litigated, and certified multiple times.

Georgia’s two Democratic senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, condemned the raid, pointing to Trump’s long history of trying to overturn the state’s 2020 results, including his infamous call pressuring Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” votes after President Joe Biden narrowly won the state.

Election officials have repeatedly confirmed that Georgia’s 2020 results were accurate, with ballots counted three times and reviewed by independent audits.

Rep. Nikema Williams, who represents the area, sent a letter demanding answers from Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, questioning whether Trump knew about or directed the search and warning that raids tied to debunked election claims risk intimidating voters and election workers ahead of future elections.

The search comes as Trump continues to falsely claim the 2020 election was rigged and has suggested that people involved will soon be prosecuted — rhetoric that critics say now appears to be translating into federal action.

The presence of the nation’s top intelligence official at a raid tied to Trump’s election grievances has intensified fears that the administration may be laying groundwork to challenge or influence future elections — not through the courts or legislation, but through federal law enforcement and intelligence power.
